The cardinal concepts of the Teaching-Family Model are Teaching and Family, i.e. concentrated skill-based teaching in interactive, supportive, family-style, relationship intensive settings and/or living environments. The Model’s main components are: Teaching, Problem-Solving frameworks, Motivation and Encouragement Systems, Self-Government Systems, and Relationship Development programming. Vital components of the Teaching-Family Model are program excellence through integrated Training Workshops for Care-Providers, On-Site Training/Consultation (workshop follow-up) and Evaluation.
The Teaching-Family Model is recognized for its outstanding ability to create partnerships that are indispensable for learning and positive sustained change. These partnerships involve children, youth, parents, families, teachers, schools, daycare centers, staff and the community. The Teaching-Family Model incorporates the most effective teaching and relational technologies available for learning, goal setting, achievement and success.
Across the country today, there are hundreds of group homes, therapeutic foster care homes, home-based services, schools, centers and families implementing this Model. Populations served are wide-ranging, spanning the full spectrum of community and family life. Populations served include: Juvenile Offenders; Emotionally Disturbed Children and Adults; Developmentally Disabled and Dual Diagnosed Clients; Autistic Clients; Children and Families from all parts of the community and community programs.
